Growth and Contribution to serve to optimize my strengths and transform my opportunities to triumph. Excited to Tune In this year to our clubs and leaders seeking even more value from their Toastmasters experience.

Public Relations Manager

I had to reorganize my life after the events in 2024. With my family’s support, I focused on finding my bearings in 2025. And 2026 is the year to effect change. I have focused back on my career and my Toastmasters goals. I was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Translators Association and made Chair of its Ethics Committee; I also joined a second Toastmasters club and advanced in my Pathways.
My Toastmasters Family was one of the steady pillars I could count on, and I am strong enough now to give back.”

Elma joined the Toastmasters International Program; wishing, hoping and desiring to be like the prepared and impromptu Speakers she encountered over 10 years ago.  You see, she kept pretty much to herself and lacked confidence to stand before a group of people and speak.  So, she did what anyone who had a deep desire for learning and knew what she needed, would do; she joined the Toastmasters International family as a member of the once vibrant and friendly, but now defunct Trailblazers Toastmasters Club.
When she was invited to join the BFM Diplomats Club 5922881, she resisted, but later joined.  During the COV19 lockdown, she embraced the opportunity to travel virtually to various overseas Clubs.  As a result of her virtual visits, she became a member of the Intercontinental Advanced Toastmasters Club and was labeled a member of “Team No Sleep”  by Distinguished Toastmaster Verna Bonaby.  She is the Founder of Bethel Toastmasters Club 28677257 that was charted on May 28, 2025.  She also served as a Sponsor and Mentor for the Club.  Bethel Toastmasters Club 28677257, notably, became a Smedley Distinguished Club within its first year of existence.
Her love and dedication for the Program as well as the development of others, led to her experiencing an amazing Toastmasters journey and an incredible personal growth.  She became a Distinguished Toastmaster on February 12, 2026; two (2) days before her birthday.
At the Club Level, DTM Knowles served in various positions, including Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President-Public Relations, Vice President-Membership, Vice President-Education & Club President.  At the District Level, DTM  Knowles served as Area 92 Director (July 2022-June 2023 )  and is now serving on the Club Growth Director’s team as  the  Club Extension Co-Chair for the Bahamas (July 2026-June 2027)
DTM Knowles has a deep passion for the Toastmasters International Program and feels everyone she meets should become a member, if they are not  one yet. Why? Because she knows how the Program transformed her life and it can do the same for them.

Youth Leadership Co-Chair

Serving is leading and following others as well as fulfilling dreams with a deadline.

Youth Leadership Co-Chair

I chose to serve this year because ever since serving as an Area Director in 2024-2025, I see the value of serving outside of my club and being of assistance to the District if I can. I also chose to serve this year to help enhance my leadership skills and to help empower others in the process. My personal vision for the Youth Leadership Program is to ensure more Toastmasters Clubs host a YLP Program this Toastmasters’ year and to bring more awareness as to how the Youth Leadership Program is positively impacting the communication and leadership skills of the younger generation, whom we are seeking to have as future Toastmasters.

Recognition Co-Chair

As Recognition Co‑Chair, I serve to celebrate growth, amplify courage, and make every member feel seen. My “why” is simple: people rise higher when their effort is acknowledged. With a background in public health, leadership, and coaching, I’ve witnessed how recognition transforms confidence and builds community. Toastmasters has given me a space to refine my voice, and I’m committed to creating that same empowering experience for others. My goal this year is to cultivate a culture where progress is noticed, milestones are honored, and every member feels valued on their journey.

Shakira Taylor, DTM, PDD
Credentials Chair

Shakira Taylor, DTM, PDD believes our real work is mastering ourselves — not other things. Within the habits, labels, and experiences we carry, she says, lie the gifts we are called to share with the world.

A speaker coach, trainer, ordained minister with the Universal Foundation for Better Living, and author of Elevate & Empower, Shakira helps emerging speakers and leaders transform their stories into stage-ready messages. As the former 2021–2022 District Director for Toastmasters District 47, she led a team of more than 65 leaders, uniting 187 clubs and 3,500+ members across South Florida and the Bahamas toward a common goal — and discovered her favorite work is igniting the flame of success in others.

She holds an MBA from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in international business and marketing from Florida International University. Since 2010, she has mentored speakers and emerging leaders who have graduated from prestigious institutions such as Spelman College and MIT.
