Susan Carter joined Toastmasters in August 2008. A member of SERHO Sundowners, she has served in several offices including Vice President of Education, and President. One of the projects that she organized was Joint club meetings that brought the clubs of area 30 together to practice speaking and to network. With the clubs meeting together, we expanded the support and experience within each club. We have had several different types of meetings, ranging from a debate to a "The Tonight Show" format. We have plans to continue with having the meetings in the future.
The experience gained by participating in Toastmasters has effect several parts of my life. I am more confident and I have expanded my interests from all of the great people that I have met. I look forward to my up coming year as Area 30 governor.

Toastmasters provides a firm foundation for building communication and leadership skills in a format that is challenging yet supportive and nurturing".

Richard Sanchez started in Toastmasters in 2005 at the Telecom Park Toastmasters in Tampa but is currently a member of the Jose Gaspar Toastmasters. I have served as Sgt. at Arms, Treasurer and President. The club meets at the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa and we have found a great meeting space at MOSI. Our members volunteer there throughout the year.

My Toastmaster experiences have encouraged me to become active as a volunteer in several organizations such as the Florida Aquarium, MOSI, the Egmont key Alliance and newsletter editor for the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Florida West Coast Section.

The speaking and leadership skills I have learned at Toastmasters have proven invaluable in my volunteering efforts and I have met many inspiring, interesting and wonderful people at the many clubs and events of Toastmasters and the organizations I work with. Toastmasters can really change your life!

As the president of TelecomPark Toastmasters since July 2009, I discovered a whole new side of myself. I love making things happen by empowering people to be their best.  By running two “Better Public Speaking” Workshops in our Verizon office building, our club increased membership from 15 to 29 members. Six of our members achieved their CC’s during my presidency. We ran a highly successful Speech Craft for a community issues group. I love mentoring and inspiring people to set their goals higher and achieve more. People tell me I am an enthusiastic energetic person. However, I am more than a cheerleader. I graduated with honors from USF’s Computer Science program. I read each week’s Economist Magazine. I also read widely and have a variety of interests from software architecture and project management, screenplay writing, acting, directing, teaching Sunday school, triathlons, and swing dancing. I currently architect enterprise software Verizon.

I am working on my ACS and my ALB.

Contact Sue Boe

Sue Boe joined Suncoast Toastmasters with the same goal so many others have when they join a Toastmasters group: simply the need to improve everyday communication skills. However, one year after joining Suncoast, a tragic accident that led to the death of Sue’s five-month old granddaughter, Kate, led Sue down a different and unanticipated path.
With the skills and knowledge Sue developed during her first year as a Toastmaster, she had a new goal: speaking engagements to heighten the awareness of deadly hyperthermia, or heat stoke that can so often occur when young children and infants are forgotten in an overheated vehicle.
Without her Toastmaster training, Sue feels she would never have had the courage and the strength to tell “Kate’s Story”, and she feels certain that in the nearly four years since Kate’s death, her “hyperthermia” presentations have saved the lives of countless children.
Sue joined Suncoast Toastmasters in July, 2005. In January, 2006, she began writing the club newsletter. Sue was Secretary from 2006-2007, and President for a year and a half, from January 2008 through June, 2009. She is presently VP Education. Sue earned her CC in 2007, and was Club Coach for Carrollwood Toastmasters in 2007-2008.
Sue, and her husband, Frank, are the club videographers. Each speaker and each evaluator is video-recorded and the videos are uploaded to the Internet. Members of Suncoast find this one of the best learning tools available to them as they work to improve their speaking and listening skills during their Toastmaster journey.
On August 25, 2009, Sue and Frank pulled off a “Surprise Toastmaster Wedding”. Frank presented his 9th project, Persuade with Power, when he proposed and persuaded Sue to marry him. “Visitors” planted in the audience - a notary public, a best man, a matron of honor, a flower girl, etc, suddenly made their presence known, and a wedding took place. This event was certainly a first time for Suncoast Toastmasters, and perhaps for any Toastmasters group, anywhere.
Sue and Frank live in Odessa, where they share their home with pets Tatters, Dennis, Stretch, Sophi, and April.
