When I joined Toastmasters in 2010, I was a Charter member of a corporate club. I had never heard of Toastmasters before, and I while I didn’t think that I needed to improve my communication skills, I thought that I would be able convince my husband Gary to join if I did.
Since joining Toastmasters I have served in most club officer roles, including being President of two clubs in the same year! My favorite role is Vice President of Education, because introducing new members to the education system and assisting them as they grow and flourish is very rewarding.
At the district level, I have served as a Pathways Guide, Area Director, and Division Director. Each role has challenged me and stretched me, and I have grown personally and professionally because of it. My mantra is “if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you”.
I am a health and fitness enthusiast who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science & Health Promotion. I’m employed as a Fitness Director in a senior community, and my greatest joy is working with someone and seeing them move from a state of frailty and illness to health and wellness.
In my spare time I enjoy traveling, doing jigsaw puzzles, and listening to audiobooks.
Linda Clarke is a veteran financial services professional, with over twenty years of experience in retail banking, regulatory compliance and asset management.
Linda joined Toastmasters in December 2020 as a member of Healing Communicators Club 7178 in Nassau, Bahamas. Two years later, she joined Sunrise Toastmasters Club based in Sunrise, Florida. Since her induction into the Toastmasters program, Linda immediately became a fixture in both club and district leadership. She has served as Club Sergeant-at-Arms, Treasurer, Vice President Public Relations, Vice President Membership, Vice President Education and President. At the District level, Linda has served as Area Director, Pathways Co-Chair, Division Director and Public Relations Manager. This year she also serves as President of Healing Communicators Club 7178.
Linda has enjoyed success during her tenure in Toastmasters. She was awarded District 47’s Area Director of the Year (2022-2023) and Division E Area Director of the Year (2022-2023), Distinguished Area Director (2022-2023), Select Distinguished Division Director (2024-2025) and is a two-time Distinguished Toastmaster (2023, 2025).
I had to reorganize my life after the events in 2024. With my family’s support, I focused on finding my bearings in 2025. And 2026 is the year to effect change. I have focused back on my career and my Toastmasters goals. I was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Translators Association and made Chair of its Ethics Committee; I also joined a second Toastmasters club and advanced in my Pathways.
My Toastmasters Family was one of the steady pillars I could count on, and I am strong enough now to give back.”
Matt Kinsey, DTM, brings nearly two decades of Toastmasters experience to his role as District Parliamentarian for District 47. A Toastmaster since 2006, Matt has served the organization at virtually every level—from club and district leadership to the Toastmasters International Board of Directors and, ultimately, as International President during the 2022–2023 program year.
Throughout his Toastmasters journey, Matt has developed a deep appreciation for the principles of effective governance, thoughtful leadership, and fair, orderly decision-making. His experience serving in district leadership, on the International Board of Directors, and as a member of the organization’s Executive Committee has given him firsthand insight into how good governance helps leaders and organizations accomplish their missions.
As District Parliamentarian, Matt serves as an advisor to the District Director and District leadership team on matters of parliamentary procedure, governing documents, and the proper conduct of District business. His goal is not simply to interpret rules, but to help ensure that meetings and decisions are handled fairly, efficiently, and in a manner that gives every member an appropriate voice in the process.
Matt believes parliamentary procedure works best when it facilitates—not complicates—the work of an organization. Rules and procedures should create clarity, protect the rights of members, and enable leaders to focus on what matters most: serving Toastmasters members and clubs.
He is honored to continue serving District 47 and looks forward to helping its leaders conduct the District’s business with confidence, fairness, and integrity.
Jeannie Cintrón has been a proud member of Toastmasters International since 2018. After serving as Area 22 Director, she now brings her marketing and technology expertise to District 47 as Webmaster, helping maintain and enhance the district’s online presence while supporting communication across the organization.
Professionally, Jeannie is the Founder and CEO of BizEdge Marketing, with more than 25 years of experience in advertising, branding, website development, and digital marketing. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and an MBA in Management and Strategic Leadership with a concentration in Human Resources.
Jeannie is passionate about combining creativity and technology to help organizations connect with their audiences. When she is not working or supporting Toastmasters, you can often find her planning her next adventure as an avid traveler, discovering new places, cultures, and experiences around the world.

I chose to serve this year because ever since serving as an Area Director in 2024-2025, I see the value of serving outside of my club and being of assistance to the District if I can. I also chose to serve this year to help enhance my leadership skills and to help empower others in the process. My personal vision for the Youth Leadership Program is to ensure more Toastmasters Clubs host a YLP Program this Toastmasters’ year and to bring more awareness as to how the Youth Leadership Program is positively impacting the communication and leadership skills of the younger generation, whom we are seeking to have as future Toastmasters.
As Recognition Co‑Chair, I serve to celebrate growth, amplify courage, and make every member feel seen. My “why” is simple: people rise higher when their effort is acknowledged. With a background in public health, leadership, and coaching, I’ve witnessed how recognition transforms confidence and builds community. Toastmasters has given me a space to refine my voice, and I’m committed to creating that same empowering experience for others. My goal this year is to cultivate a culture where progress is noticed, milestones are honored, and every member feels valued on their journey.

A speaker coach, trainer, ordained minister with the Universal Foundation for Better Living, and author of Elevate & Empower, Shakira helps emerging speakers and leaders transform their stories into stage-ready messages. As the former 2021–2022 District Director for Toastmasters District 47, she led a team of more than 65 leaders, uniting 187 clubs and 3,500+ members across South Florida and the Bahamas toward a common goal — and discovered her favorite work is igniting the flame of success in others.
She holds an MBA from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in international business and marketing from Florida International University. Since 2010, she has mentored speakers and emerging leaders who have graduated from prestigious institutions such as Spelman College and MIT.
Ann McLaughlin-Delisca, DTM, is an educator, author, speaker, and accounting and finance professional with expertise in financial reporting, compliance, and governance. As a higher education leader, she empowers students to achieve academic and career success while helping individuals and business owners build financial confidence and make informed decisions.
During her 13 years in Toastmasters, Ann has served as District Finance Manager, Area Director, Community Outreach Co-Chair, and DTM Co-Chair. She is honored to serve as District 47 Audit Committee Chair and is committed to advancing transparency, accountability, and sound financial stewardship in support of the District’s mission and its members.
Andrea Pratt-Smith is an award-winning project management consultant, leadership trainer, and international speaker with over 20 years of experience helping leaders and teams move from constant motion to meaningful results. She is the CEO of Creative Minds Project Development & Consultation, Founder of The Bahamas Agile & Project Management Community (BAPMC), and the first licensed Professional Kanban Trainer in the Caribbean.
A dedicated Toastmaster and the 2025 Toastmasters District 47 Most Valuable Member, Andrea is a former Area Director and Club President who currently serves as Co-Chair of the 2027 Toastmasters District 47 Annual Conference. She has facilitated several Toastmasters Leadership Institute workshops and served as a presenter at the 2025 and 2026 District 47 Annual Conferences. Passionate about leadership development, she enjoys mentoring emerging leaders and creating engaging learning experiences that help members strengthen their communication, confidence, and leadership skills.

Joined Toastmasters in 2012. In 2019, I earned the Distinguished Toastmaster award. Throughout my Toastmasters journey, I have served in every club officer role—many of them multiple times—and currently belong to three clubs: Universal Toastmasters #7653, Universal Advanced Toastmasters, and Bold Communicators Club. I am also a multiple Triple Crown award recipient.
Beyond the club level, I had the privilege of serving as Division A Director during the 2018–2019 program year, helping lead the division to President’s Distinguished recognition. In 2024, I served as a Helping Hands volunteer at the Toastmasters International Annual Convention in Anaheim, California, celebrating the organization’s historic 100th anniversary.
Professionally, I am a retired Registered Nurse with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and a Certified Health Coach. I am inspired by Nelson Mandela’s words: “It always seems impossible, until it is done.” That quote continues to remind me that growth begins by taking the first step.
Beverly Cordner retired in 2024 as a Division Operations Actuarial Manager at the Boca Raton, FL based National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc., the largest provider of workers
compensation and employee injury data and statistics in the nation. She retired with 37 years of experience in the property & casualty insurance industry. Beverly is married with two adult daughters.
Beverly received her Distinguished Toastmasters designation in March 2014. She has been a Toastmaster at Sensor Toast since 2007. She has served her club in a variety of leadership positions including President, Vice President Education, Vice-President Public Relations, Treasurer, and Secretary. She has mentored several people at her club. She is also currently serving as Vice President Education at Sensor Toast.
She has served the district as an Area Director in the 2012-2013 year where she earned the President’s Distinguished award for Area 32. She also served as the Club Coach and Advocate Chair for 2013-2017 by overseeing coaching efforts in the District. She assigned coaches to clubs with 12 or less paid members and advocates to clubs that have 13 to 19 paid members. She also served as the Speech Contest Chair from 2017 to 2018. In addition, she served as one of the TLI Co-Chairs from 2021 to 2022.
She is currently serving as one of the Pathways Co-Chairs for the 2026 to 2027 period. She loves mentoring others and watching them enhance their skill sets. She has grown in her Pathways
knowledge over the last few years by helping many members of her club navigate both new and old paths in Base Camp. She still feels that she has more to learn about Pathways, especially since Toastmasters International keeps introducing more changes every year. She felt this role would merge both of her interests – mentoring others and increasing her Pathways knowledge.
Toastmaster Shari Hall is an experienced, detail-oriented Accountant, who is skilled in financial analysis and account reconciliations. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance from the University of Maryland, University College.
Shari joined the Toastmasters program making Healing Communicators Club 7178 her home club. Her goal in joining the program was to conquer her fear of public speaking while enhancing her leadership skills. She has diligently served her club as Treasurer (2024-2025), Vice President Public Relations (2025-2026), and is the current Vice President Membership.
Shari remains committed to fostering excellence in communication and leadership, upholding the values of Toastmasters International with professionalism, integrity, and dedication.
CeCe Espeut is a five-time Distinguished Toastmaster, two-time TEDx speaker, former U.S. Marine, and Executive Director of TEDxMiramar. She believes confident communication changes lives and opens doors. Her passion for serving on the District Executive Committee is helping members grow as leaders, strengthen clubs, and create opportunities for others to discover and share their voice.
Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Martin received undergraduate degrees in Business Economics & Teacher Education. He possesses a Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws, and is a doctoral student in economic law and technology policy.
DTM Martin served as an adjunct law faculty member at the University of The Bahamas Law School and the Bahamas Institute of Financial Services.
My vision for this year as one of the two Contest Co-Chairs is to utilize the skills and experiences that I have gained over the years to coordinate a successful speech contest.
Serving as a club officer for many years and most recently as Division Director has provided me the opportunity to belong to a network of like-minded Toastmasters who share the core values of Toastmasters. We should strive to “Strengthen the Brand and support each other”
The goal is to ensure a flawless, rule compliant and engaging Speech Contest that will be a memorable experience for everyone.
Serving allows me to give back to an organization that has contributed to my growth and self-development. Kay M. Stagray enjoys guiding and coaching others to crush goals, complete projects, and discover a passion for their mission and purpose! Her company, S&K Endeavors, has been providing project management, consulting, and coaching services to individuals and organizations for over 20 years, doing just that!
Kay has been able to bring the same passion to Toastmasters. Since joining her home club, Sensor Toast #3518, Kay has served in several club and district roles. Four times as a Club Officer – Sergeant at Arms, VP Education, Secretary, and currently, President. Kay has served District 47 as a Newsletter Editor, Division Director, and Area Director.
Kay has enjoyed success as a Toastmaster. She was awarded Division C Area Director of the Year (2022-2023), Select Distinguished Area Director (2022-2023), Select Distinguished Division Director (2024-2025), and earned her first Distinguished Toastmaster this past March.
Charlene Henderson’s Toastmasters journey has been life-changing. She joined to become a better speaker and leader, and along the way, she has grown into a stronger storyteller, more confident communicator, and deeper believer in herself.
Guided by the principle “Each one, teach one,” Charlene is committed to giving back by encouraging and supporting others as they reach their goals. This year, she is excited to serve as TLI Co-chair, Area 81 Director, and President of her Bradenton Toastmasters club. She believes success comes through building relationships, focusing on shared goals, and helping others grow.
Outside of Toastmasters, Charlene is the proud mother of two outstanding young women and works from home as an Implementation Project Manager for a Human Capital Management company. She is passionate about using her talents to make a meaningful difference for members and future leaders within and beyond Toastmasters.
I just love a spreadsheet. As our modern world can overload us, I enjoy assimilating information and presenting it in a format that is simple, meaningful and actionable. My experiences in Toastmasters have allowed me to enjoy the spotlight at times. This role is more behind the scenes, and it is my joy to contribute to the success of the district, and the many leaders who step up to make it all happen.
Kate has been a member of Toastmasters International since 2011 and achieved the Distinguished Toastmaster designation in 2018. She has served District 47 as Public Relations Manager, Editor of The Sunshiner, and Area 10 Director, and has held every leadership position at the club level. She is a member of Art of Speaking, Broward College, and Miami Advanced Toastmasters clubs.
Kate is a former journalist who has worked as a writer/editor for publications in Florida and New England and is a frequent contributor to Toastmaster magazine. She is the founder and CEO of Kate’s Copy, which creates marketing content and helps authors write books to share their business and personal stories. She lives in Hollywood, Florida, near her two sons and one granddaughter.
My mission is to help those around me achieve their goals and their dreams. I have made this a reality through being a mentor which enables me to change the world one person at a time. My vision is to take my mission, scale it, and go from Me to We.
Through my years in Toastmasters, I have learned that when you are asked to serve at the District Level, you are being chosen among hundreds of individuals to contribute to the success of the wider Toastmasters Community. This in itself is an honor and a responsibility that the person who is asking you believes you can handle. The times I have reluctantly said yes I have not regretted the experience and the growth that comes with it. My vision for my Divisions in The Bahamas is that Clubs are strengthened with committed and enthusiastic members in 2026-2027.
John has recently retired from a long career in I.T. and Quality Improvement helping organizations improve their effectiveness while saving money. John is an American Society for Quality Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Effectiveness (CMQ/OE) as well as a certified Kepner-Tregoe Problem Solving and Decision-Making (KT PS/DM) program leader and consultant.
John is a 2-time Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), was awarded Area Governor of the Year, and has been awarded first place in many speech contests. John has held many club level officer positions and many district level positions. John might be best known as the District Photographer, having held this role for more than 10 years. John is currently a member of 3 clubs, has supported several demonstration meetings, and is one of the original trainers for the new Club Officer Training (COT) program. John holds a Toastmaster record that cannot be broken.
My vision as Corporate Leads Liaison is to help organizations fully recognize the power of Toastmasters. I want corporations to see Toastmasters not simply as a public speaking club but an investment in employee growth, leadership, and professional excellence. Members can develop skills that positively impact both their careers and their organizations. I aim to inspire companies to strengthen existing clubs, establish new ones, and foster a culture of continuous learning. By bringing creative fresh ideas and encouragement, I hope to help every club and member reach their highest potential.
Andrea Robinson is an award-winning journalist and media relations consultant with more than three decades of experience. She joined Toastmasters International in 2010 and embraced the concepts and purposes of Toastmasters. She achieved her Distinguished Toastmaster achievement in 2020.
Andrea has served in District 47 twice as Public Relations Manager, Division A Director, and as Area Director. This year she’s serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Sunshiner for District 47. She served in this role two other times for District Governor Anthony “Tony” Longley and District Director Austen Canonica.
Her other organizational involvements include memberships in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., NAACP, the National Association of Black Journalists, South Florida Black Journalists, and Public Relations Society of America. In her spare time, she enjoys singing at the Universal Truth Center for Better Living in Miami Gardens.
For the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a club officer and supporting members as they grow into more confident communicators and leaders. Along the way, I’ve also served as an Area Director, and I’m currently working toward earning my Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) designation.
As District Photographer, I believe every event tells a story, and every member’s journey deserves to be seen. Through photography, I aim to capture the moments that reflect the heart of District 47—leadership, learning, service, connection, and celebration. My goal is to preserve the memories that inspire members, recognize those who serve, and showcase the impact Toastmasters has on individuals and our communities.
For me, photography is more than documenting events; it’s about honoring the people behind the moments and helping tell the story of a district that continues to grow through the dedication of its members.
Having previously served as Area 50 Director, completed two consecutive terms as Division E Director, and most recently served as Administrative Manager, I have developed a deep appreciation for District 47 leadership and service. Serving as Copy Editor will allow me to expand my personal and professional experience, apply my communication skills in a new capacity, and continue growing as a leader. My vision is to support the District through clear, accurate, and engaging communications that strengthen member engagement, promote collaboration, and help clubs and leaders achieve excellence.
Berina Elaine Darbouze is from Miami, Florida, and currently works as a Business Process Analyst for UnitedHealth Group, where she focuses on operational efficiency, training, and process improvement. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Psychology, combining her passion for people with her commitment to organizational excellence.
A member of the North Miami Beach Toastmasters Club since 2023, Berina has served as Club President, Vice President Membership, and Vice President Public Relations. She has competed in and supported Toastmasters speech contests at the club, Area, and Division levels. During the 2025–2026 Toastmasters year, she proudly served as Area 14 Director, mentoring club leaders and promoting member growth through collaboration and leadership.
Outside of work and Toastmasters, Berina enjoys attending church, dancing, playing tennis, reading, writing, watching films, and spending time with her family. She is passionate about lifelong learning, servant leadership, and empowering others to reach their full potential.
I chose to serve this year because Toastmasters has had a profound impact on my life. It has helped me grow as a speaker, a leader, and a person. As a member since 2021, I have benefited from the support, encouragement, and mentorship of many Toastmasters, and I want to give back to an organization that has given me so much. Serving as Area 10 Director is an opportunity to support clubs, help members achieve their goals, and contribute to the success of our district.
My passion is developing people and helping them reach their potential. In my Toastmasters club, I see future leaders at every stage of growth—some need stronger public speaking skills, others need organizational and leadership development, and many simply need encouragement and support.
I am also passionate about organizational excellence. I am continually looking for ways to improve meetings, training, and member experiences by making the best use of available resources. Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, Yvette has always been determined to reach her full potential. Recognizing the value of Toastmasters in strengthening her leadership journey, she joined Healing Communicators Club 7178 in December 2020. Yvette has served the club in numerous capacities, including Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President Membership, Vice President Education, and President. She also became a member of East Central Archdeaconry Toastmasters Club 7717904, where she served as Treasurer. Yvette’s strong commitment to grow led her to raise her hands to roles at the district level. She was appointed Division B, Area 22 Director for the 2022–2023 Toastmasters year, achieving Select Distinguished status. She was also named Division B Area Director of the Year for 2022–2023. Yvette has served as District 47 Recognition Co-Chair for 2023–2024, Conference Co-Chair for 2024–2025, and Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) Co-Chair for 2025–2026. She is serving as Division B Director for the 2026–2027 Toastmasters year. She has also conducted numerous Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) sessions and Club Officer Trainings (COT), experiences that have contributed significantly to her continued growth as a leader. Her favourite quote is, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
My “why” is service—loving and teaching others through every opportunity I’m given. I strive to live by example for my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, showing them what it means to walk in purpose and integrity. I want my life to reflect consistency, whether in moments of joy or challenge. I am shaped and strengthened by reading the Word of God, allowing it to guide my decisions and my heart. My commitment is to do what is right in both the light and the dark, standing firm in faith, character, and love as a lasting legacy for my family.
I became a Toastmaster because I wanted to become a more confident and effective communicator. As an oncology nurse navigator, I have seen how the right words can comfort, educate, and inspire people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Toastmasters has helped me grow not only as a speaker but also as a leader and a better listener.
I chose to serve as an Area Director because I believe in giving back to an organization that has given me so much. I enjoy encouraging others to discover their potential, supporting clubs in their growth, and helping create an environment where members feel welcomed, challenged, and inspired to succeed.
I didn’t set out looking for this role, I I needed a little nudge. Sometimes others see potential in you before you see it yourself, and I’m grateful someone did. I’ve always believed in lifelong learning and saying yes to new challenges. Toastmasters has helped me grow tremendously, and communication has become one of the most valuable skills I’ve developed, both professionally and personally. It is an honor to serve as the Division C Director for Toastmasters District 47 for the 2026–2027 year. I am Omario Allen, a leader driven by purpose, a perspicacious approach to challenges, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. I believe leadership is not defined by a title, but by our ability to recognize potential, inspire others, and create environments where people can achieve more than they thought possible.
This year also marks an important personal milestone as I celebrate my 20th year as an IT professional. Today, I provide services in commercial networking, low-voltage systems, and life safety, while also pursuing various entrepreneurial ventures. Two decades in a constantly evolving industry have taught me the importance of adaptability, strategic thinking, continuous learning, and delivering results. Principles that strongly influence my approach to leadership.
My vision for Division C is to build a culture where excellence becomes our standard rather than simply our aspiration. I envision stronger clubs, empowered Area Directors, engaged members, greater collaboration, and an environment where innovative ideas are encouraged. Through accountability, communication, and mutual support, our leadership team will work to provide every club with the resources and encouragement necessary to flourish.
As we embark upon the 2026–2027 Toastmasters year, I am excited about what we can accomplish together. Every challenge presents an opportunity, and every member represents untapped potential. Together, we will learn, lead, innovate, and inspire. Building upon Division C’s successes while confidently pursuing even greater heights.
Toast of Las Olas completely changed how I see Toastmasters. Experiencing the culture, support, and opportunity in my home club showed me how something as simple as public speaking can bring a community together and transform lives. This year, I chose to serve so I can help create that same sense of culture in my Area—clubs where members feel supported to face their fear of speaking, connect more effectively with their audience, and grow in confidence every week

Marilyn Bieber Marilyn Bieber has been a Toastmaster for more than eight years and has served in a variety of club leadership roles, including Vice President Public Relations, Vice President Membership, Vice President Education, and Club President.
At the district level, Marilyn served as Member Extension Chair (2021–2022), Area D42 Director (2023–2024), and District 47 Member Engagement Co-Chair (2025–2026). She is honored to continue her Toastmasters leadership journey as Division D Director for the 2026–2027 Toastmasters year.
Marilyn joined Toastmasters to elevate her communication skills and create opportunities to share her knowledge and life experiences with others. A lifelong learner, she holds degrees in Mass Communications/Journalism and Media & Communications Psychology and is nearing completion of the requirements for the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award. Professionally, Marilyn built a career in the radio industry, conducting market research projects before joining a 50-station broadcast group, where she directed research initiatives and oversaw training programs. She later served as Director of Programs and Events for a local nonprofit before becoming a licensed life and health insurance agent. Today, she develops and delivers workshops focused on personal and financial wellness, with a special emphasis on empowering women. Originally from California, Marilyn now calls Florida home. She enjoys spending time with her daughter, Patience, a successful business owner, and her grandson, Bodhi.
Marilyn is passionate about helping others grow as communicators and leaders while fostering meaningful connections through the Toastmasters experience.
I chose to serve this year as part of my commitment to earning my Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) designation. More importantly, I see this as an opportunity to help others grow and succeed in their Toastmasters journey. My vision for our area is for all six clubs to achieve Distinguished Club status. I believe that by focusing on member engagement, Pathways progress, leadership development, and club excellence, we can create a rewarding experience for every member. Success for me is not only achieving my personal goals but also helping our clubs and members reach theirs.

Nalla Tejera is an experienced maintenance planner, military veteran, and administrative professional with a strong background in operational logistics and financial coordination.
Born and raised in Hialeah, Florida, she graduated with a Bachelors in Communications Arts and minors in Management & Studio Art from Hood College in 2013. Served in the United States Navy for 5 years where she was Gas Turbine Mechanic operating throughout the Mediterranean Sea.
Currently works for Florida Power & Light Company as a Power Plant Maintenance Planner, managing complex projects, procurement operations, and asset maintenance. Also, handles financial tracking, vendor coordination and budget monitoring.
Certified Notary, Mother, and an active community member bringing disciplined execution, strategic problem-solving, and strong organizational oversight to industrial and corporate settings with a dedication to reliable public operations and continuous process improvement.
Melissa Rowe is an HR professional at a New York City-based financial services firm. Her weekday focus is on her HR responsibilities, and she pursues her passions for public speaking on Tuesday nights and weekends. She joined Toastmasters in May 2024 through her home club, Sunset Speakers, and quickly embraced the opportunity to serve and grow. Melissa began her leadership journey as Club Secretary in her first year, went on to serve as Club President, and now serves as Vice President Education. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from Baruch College and a Master of Science in Human Resource Education from Fordham University.
Melissa chose to serve as an Area Director because she genuinely enjoys being part of the Toastmasters community and deeply values the growth, encouragement, and connections it has brought into her life. She looks forward to helping advance the District’s vision by supporting clubs, encouraging their continued growth, developing strong communicators and future leaders, and fostering a welcoming community built on confidence and connection. With only a carry-on suitcase in hand, Melissa arrived in West Palm Beach in 2020 intending to “ride out” the pandemic. Four months later, she decided to make it her permanent home to fully enjoy sunny South Florida living.
Betty Ortiz-Valdes, DTM is a native of Miami Florida. She attended Miami Central High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Florida International University.
Betty was employed by Miami Dade County for 30 years at Miami International Airport. As a special projects administrator, she managed airport commercial operations. Betty was a certified fraud examiner, a credential that enabled her to implement antifraud measures within airport commercial operations. Betty retired in 2014 and founded America Business and Management Services, a consulting firm specializing in government contract management for airports.
Betty joined Toastmasters International in 2016 to strengthen her public speaking and presentation abilities, aiming to communicate more clearly and confidently with clients —essential skills she believed would help her market her business more successfully. She is currently a member of four clubs: West Kendall Toastmasters, Miami Advanced Toastmasters, Miami Business Speakers Toastmasters, and the Landing. She has held club officer and district roles where she mentored and empowered members to take on leadership positions.
Betty decided to dedicate this year to mentoring area directors, preparing them for success as future district leaders.
Betty has begun to lead the district’s mission to Tune in to D47 Vision: Envision, Empower and Exemplify. By working together to strengthen club excellence, and elevate member experience, we can empower every member to achieve their best and exemplify the D47 Vision.

Toastmasters gave me a room where my voice could grow before I trusted it anywhere else. Twelve years and 1,600+ community events later, I keep seeing the same truth: people don’t lack ability — they lack a stage, and someone who believes they belong on it. That’s why I’m serving. My goal as Area Director is simple: support my clubs so that feel less like meetings and more like a home base, where members keep showing up because they’re getting better and they know it.
I want to help our local Toastmasters community continue transforming lives. For 100 years, Toastmasters has empowered people to discover their potential and voice. But this is only possible because we have leaders, at every level, who invest their time and energy to deliver a quality experience for members. My vision for Area 53 is one where clubs flourish, membership grows, and every member feels supported, inspired, and challenged to achieve more. Having served as Vice President Membership, Vice President Education, President, and Division F Administrator, I have experienced firsthand the impact of Toastmasters leadership and service. I chose to serve as Area Director to continue supporting club leaders, supporting leadership development within clubs, and continuing to grow alongside others. My vision is to encourage a culture of networking, mentoring, and collaboration among clubs in Area 61 to strengthen the Area. As a Social Sciences Educator and experienced club executive, I know that true leadership means moving from managing tasks to Empowering emerging leaders through intentional mentorship. I chose to be an Area Director because I wanted a new challenge. My vision is for my Area to be the best Area that the earth has ever seen. You will remember my Area… you might not remember my name but you’ll remember my year.
I chose to serve as the Division G Director because I love the program and I want to see my Division grow and spread Toastmasters to everyone or residence in that community be it a next door neighbor or a corporate worker. Toastmasters changed my life, and I want to help it change someone else’s.
I am a product of the program. I first joined toastmasters because I had a panic attack from having to speaking Infront of my peers in college. Since then, I have overcome my fear and competed in speech competitions. Being a part of the organization, I have had the pleasure of seeing many persons be transformed like I have. It is my wish to help aid the area’s clubs so that more people can reap the benefits that toastmasters have to offer. My vision is to help clubs create stronger clubs that can attract persons to join the organization.

I was asked by 2 close friends to support the Division during this transition. I accepted the challenge. I’m ready to assist D47 to work w Area Directors to ensure we meet the needs of members, work thru Pathways & assure Toastmasters International that we honor & respect the opportunity to utilize their programs to improve communication skills and develop leadership skills.
I wanted to make sure that my division had a strong voice as we merge into our new district, and I wanted to help our members make a smooth transition into our new TM ‘home’.

Charlene Henderson’s Toastmasters journey has been life-changing. She joined to become a better speaker and leader, and along the way, she has grown into a stronger storyteller, more confident communicator, and deeper believer in herself.
Guided by the principle “Each one, teach one,” Charlene is committed to giving back by encouraging and supporting others as they reach their goals. This year, she is excited to serve as TLI Co-chair, Area 81 Director, and President of her Bradenton Toastmasters club. She believes success comes through building relationships, focusing on shared goals, and helping others grow.
Outside of Toastmasters, Charlene is the proud mother of two outstanding young women and works from home as an Implementation Project Manager for a Human Capital Management company. She is passionate about using her talents to make a meaningful difference for members and future leaders within and beyond Toastmasters.
Cynthia Peterson is honored to serve as an Area Director for Toastmasters District 47. A Toastmasters member for almost two years, she has embraced every opportunity to grow as a communicator, leader, mentor, and encourager. She is currently continuing her educational journey toward earning the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) designation.
Professionally, Cynthia is a metabolic health coach, fitness instructor, educator, and public speaker who is passionate about helping others become healthier, more confident versions of themselves. Her leadership style is rooted in encouragement, practical support, and the belief that people thrive when they feel welcomed, valued, and inspired to grow.
As Area Director, Cynthia looks forward to supporting club leaders, strengthening the member experience, and helping clubs create positive environments where every member can develop their voice and leadership abilities. She is excited to serve alongside the members of District 47 and contribute to the continued growth and success of its clubs.
My name is Claudia Zapata, and I’m honored to serve the district this year as part of the Sunshiner Magazine Team. I chose to step into this role because I value the skills and relationships I have built in the past. I want to give back, cheer others on, and use what I have learned to help the district achieve its goals this year. Being part of a community that has a positive impact on people’s lives inspires me to keep growing and seek opportunities that lead to a greater purpose.
In Toastmasters, I have witnessed how confidence, leadership, and communication develop when members are supported, encouraged, and challenged in the right ways. My vision for this year is that our work encourages clubs to strengthen participation and inspires enthusiasm at every level. My aim is to help clubs feel connected and supported, recognize members progress and ensure they have the guidance they need to succeed in achieving their goals.
